NASUWT National Executive Member John Hall has told the TUC Congress that the NASUWT is committed to continuing its national action to protect teachers’ pay and conditions in the face of attacks on school funding.
He pointed to the Union's work on bargaining with academy trusts which has resulted in many retaining national pay and conditions frameworks and also the Union's strike action at school level to prevent redundancies.
...Speaking on a motion on the school funding crisis at the Congress in Brighton today, he said:
“It is vital that school funding issues are not used as a justification for withholding pay from the school workforce.
“95% of local authority maintained primary schools and 83% of local authority maintained secondary schools carried a surplus revenue balance in 2014/15.
“Many academy trusts which cry poverty give obscene levels of pay to chief executives and also filter public money out of the state school system to linked service providers. These are the pay practices which need to be replaced by an alternative approach which pays teachers fairly in the interests of the whole of society.”
