Commenting on the news from the Scottish Government that more pupils across Scotland are returning to school this week in buildings suited to a modern learning environment, Chris Keates, General Secretary of the NASUWT, the fastest growing teachers union in Scotland, said:

“The NASUWT welcomes the news that the SNP is committed to delivering its manifesto pledge to provide children and teachers with the best possible environment for teaching and learning.

“There is no doubt that pupils and teachers need quality school buildings fit for the 21st century.

“The refurbishment programme must, however, be part of a coherent and comprehensive strategy of investment in education, including investment in resources and in the school workforce.”

Jane Peckham, NASUWT National Official Scotland, said:

“Investment in high-quality, fit for purpose school buildings is an investment in the higher standards of pupil attainment and school achievement.”
