NASUWT National Executive Member Dave Kitchen has called on the Government to take urgent action to address the housing crisis and the provision of affordable housing, which he has warned, is having an increasing detrimental impact on pupils and young teachers.
Speaking on a motion on housing at TUC Congress in Brighton today, he said:
“22% of teachers have told us they know of pupils who had lost their homes due to financial pressures, with a further 32% reporting that they had taught pupils who were living in temporary accommodation such as B&Bs and hostels.
“The lives of children and young people are being blighted and degraded by poor housing conditions.
“It is time that the Government took action to ensure that no child or young person has to ensure housing conditions that shame decent society.”
