The Scottish Government provides a block grant known as the General Revenue Grant to local authorities with the remainder funded largely from Council Tax.

In addition to the block grant funding, councils may also apply for discretionary funding under the Bellwin Scheme. Local authorities then determine the funding to schools.

The NASUWT remains concerned that cuts to local authority grants in Scotland are having a detrimental impact on school funding.

The NASUWT believes that the funding mechanism for schools must contribute to raising educational standards for all pupils and provide for the operation of the national pay and conditions frameworks for teachers and enable schools to recruit and retain a high-quality workforce.

The Union is continuing to press for a sufficient, fair and appropriate distribution of funding to ensure stability and sustainability.
